Late 19th Century French Oak Hunting Cabinet, circa 1890
This exquisite French oak hunting cabinet, dating back to around 1890, is a fine example of late 19th-century craftsmanship. It is composed of three main parts:
Upper Section:
Cornice: Outswept cornice carved with a stylized ovolo border.
Cabinet: Features a single cabinet fronted by three doors with gilt-metal handles and escutcheons.
Central Door: Carved with a huntsman on his horse and a deer in a landscape with a castle.
Side Doors: Carved with mythological dolphins.
Columns: The doors are interspersed by knopped and fluted columns.
Interior: Contains two detachable shelves.
Middle Section:
Back Panel: Detachable three-division back panel.
Gallery: Central gallery flanked by two turned and fluted support columns (note: the two side columns are missing).
Drawers: Two fitted drawers with brass handles.
Lower Section:
Doors: A pair of paneled doors carved with central diamond-form acanthus detail, with foliage at each corner.
Interior: Encloses a detachable shelf.
Additional Features: The right top cabinet comes with a lock and key.
