Description

Interesting Renaissance Cabinet from the 19th Century, circa 1870, Flemish Renaissance-revival from Mechelen.
It’s construction composed of two parts, an upper and lower section, featuring an out swept cornice with decorative molding at the top.
Carved Panels with swirl-lobed carved panel with snarling lion-mask carvings at each corner with wraparound scale work carved panel that resembles fish scales. The Pilasters each carved with a small caryatid sculpted female figure used as a column of a Dutch Burgher citizen. Winged angel-mask carvings as well as carved lion-paw designs. The cabinet door is glazed with glass and frame decorated with circular flowerhead paterae, ornamental disks with scalloped beading and decorative edge. Encloses a detachable shelf, equipped with lock and key (lock not functioning).

The interpretation and style influences of this detailed and interesting Cabinet is that it is a product of the Renaissance-revival movement, characterized by a return to the ornate and classical elements of the Renaissance period.
